The Johnson County STOP Underage Drinking Project announces its 2009 Scholarship Recipients:
The STOP Scholarship Program is now in its 5th year of existence as a strategy to award the youth of Johson County for exemplary service to the communtiy in alcohol and drug prevention, as well as their passion to act as a drug-free role model for their peers. The Scholarship Program has now awarded a total of 34 individuals from Johnson County with a $1,000 college scholarship to be used at the institution of their choice. The recipients have earned these awards through a rigorous application process that includes: a personal biography; answers to questions pertaining to their substance abuse prevention efforts and methods of confronting pressure to use alcohol and/or drugs; activities, volunteer involvement, and awards they have been associated with; letters of recommendation from school, community and parents; and high school transcripts. STOP believes that by contributing to this Scholarship Program, the individual recipients will use this award to further their education, and ultimately make a positive impact on the community in the future.
