Prom Essay Contest 2007 Prom Essay Contest For the 7th consecutive year, STOP sponsored the Prom-ise To Be Drug Free Prom Essay Contest. Leslie Goodwin, a junior at Shawnee Mission South High School was selected as the 2007 winner. For submitting the winning essay titled, “Stop Underage Drinking” (clink on link to view essay), Leslie received an ultimate prom package. The grand prize included a gift certificate for $150 to Oak Park Mall, a $100 gift certificate to the Country Club Plaza, a $50 gift certificate to Beauty Brands, a $40 gift certificate to Hy-Vee Floral department, two picture frames and a disposable camera.
The 2nd place winner was Courtney Loveall from Spring Hill High School. Her winning essay was titled “Tomorrow’s Satisfaction” (clink on link to view essay). The 3rd place winner was Megan Boyce from Olathe South High School. Her wining essay was titled “How Alcohol Has Affected My Life” (clink on link to view essay).
STOP has sponsored this contest in an effort to bring awareness to youth about the dangers of underage drinking and drug abuse and to support teens for making positive choices to stay alcohol and drug free. There were 32 entries total received from local Johnson County high school students. All participants received STOP backpacks, portable radios, locker mirrors, stop-watch key chains, Culver’s of Overland Park gift certificate and a certificate of participation.
